Quick Start

This chapter helps you complete your first experience with FastBee open-source edition in 15 minutes. After deployment, follow the steps below to create your first IoT product and connect a device in 5 minutes.

Page Guide

What This Page CoversThe main path of the Quick Start chapter: the complete first-experience flow from logging in and creating a product to defining a thing model and verifying MQTT access.
Use CasesFor users working with the platform for the first time after deployment: create a product, define a thing model, add a device, and run an MQTT connection test step by step.
PrerequisitesDeployment is complete, the web console is accessible, and an MQTT client (such as MQTTX) is available.
Acceptance CriteriaThe device shows online on the platform, can report property data, and receives commands delivered from the platform.

1. Log In to the Platform

Visit http://server-ip in a browser and log in with the default account:

  • Username: admin
  • Password: admin123

2. Create a Product

  1. Go to IoT > Product Management
  2. Click the Add button
  3. Fill in the product information:
    • Product Name: e.g. "Temperature & Humidity Sensor"
    • Category: select an existing category or create a new one
    • Device Type: select "Direct Device"
    • Auth Method: select "Simple Authentication (one device, one secret)"
  4. Click OK to save

3. Define the Thing Model

On the product detail page, click the Thing Model tab.

  1. Add a Property: e.g. "Temperature" (data type: float, unit: ℃)
  2. Add a Property: e.g. "Humidity" (data type: float, unit: %RH)
  3. Add a Function (optional): e.g. "Switch" (data type: bool)
  4. Click Publish to activate the thing model

4. Add a Device

  1. Go to IoT > Device Management
  2. Click the Add button
  3. Select the product you just created
  4. Enter a device name (e.g. "sensor-001")
  5. The system automatically generates the Device Number and Auth Key — record this information

5. MQTT Connection Test

Connect to the platform with any MQTT client (such as MQTTX or MQTT.fx):

ParameterValue
Server AddressYour server IP
Port1883 (TCP)
Client IDS&deviceNumber&productId&userId
UsernameMQTT username
PasswordMQTT password

Report Property Data

Send JSON data to the following topic:

Topic: /{productId}/{deviceNum}/property/post

[{
  "id": "temperature",
  "value": "25.6",
  "remark": ""
}, {
  "id": "humidity",
  "value": "60.2",
  "remark": ""
}]

After publishing, view the real-time data under Thing Model Data on the device detail page.

6. View Data

  • Real-time Data: Device Detail > Thing Model Data
  • Device Logs: Device Detail > Device Logs
  • Online Status: check whether the device is online in the device list

FAQ

What is the relationship between quick start and installation?

Installation is the prerequisite that gets the platform running; the quick start is the first-use guide after deployment, covering the shortest path from creating a product to connecting a device.

What is the default login account of FastBee open-source edition?

The default username is admin and the default password is admin123. After deployment, visit http://server-ip in a browser to log in to the platform.

How do I fill in the MQTT client connection parameters?

Set the server address to your server IP and the port to 1883 (TCP). The Client ID format is S&deviceNumber&productId&userId, and the username and password are the MQTT username and MQTT password respectively.

Which topic does a device use to report property data?

Send data in JSON array format to the /{productId}/{deviceNum}/property/post topic. After publishing, you can view the real-time data under Thing Model Data on the device detail page.

How do I confirm that a device is connected successfully?

Check three acceptance criteria: the device shows online in the device list, the reported real-time data is visible under Device Detail > Thing Model Data, and the device receives commands delivered from the platform.
