Hardware Selection
Confirm the board's chip, Flash and PSRAM before selecting the matching FastBee environment. Do not choose by feature count: the release baseline uses runtime switches and a memory budget.
Boards and Environments
| Chip / Module | Environment | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Classic ESP32, 4MB, no PSRAM | esp32-F4R0 | GPIO, basic sensors, WiFi/MQTT |
| Classic ESP32, 8MB, no PSRAM | esp32-F8R0 | OTA-capable WROOM node |
| Classic ESP32, 8MB + 8MB PSRAM | esp32-F8R8 | WROVER gateway/cache |
| ESP32-C3, 4MB, no PSRAM | esp32c3-F4R0 | Low-cost WiFi node |
| ESP32-C6, 4MB, no PSRAM | esp32c6-F4R0 | WiFi 6 node |
| ESP32-C6, 8MB, no PSRAM | esp32c6-F8R0 | WiFi 6 OTA node |
| ESP32-S3, 8MB, no PSRAM | esp32s3-F8R0 | S3 OTA node without PSRAM |
| ESP32-S3, 8MB + 8MB PSRAM | esp32s3-F8R8 | OTA, displays, rules and more peripherals |
| ESP32-S3, 16MB + 8MB PSRAM | esp32s3-F16R8 | Large gateway, cellular/Ethernet and heavier Web pages |
These are the nine release environments. F is Flash and R is PSRAM; standard names no longer use F8R4. Flash determines the partition and OTA capability, while PSRAM provides headroom for MQTTS, display buffers and concurrent peripheral work.

Selection Advice
- A 4MB environment is sufficient for GPIO and a few sensors, but it has no OTA.
- Prefer
esp32s3-F8R8for OTA, MQTTS, scripts, displays or many peripherals. - Use
esp32s3-F16R8for larger configuration/log space or products with cellular/Ethernet hardware. - Before using W5500, EC801E-CN or RS485, verify the power rail, logic levels, UART/SPI pins and cooling.
Pin and Power Safety
- Avoid pins reserved for Flash/PSRAM, USB/JTAG, BOOT and the download UART. Always follow the exact board schematic.
- Classic ESP32 GPIO34-39 are input-only. Prefer ADC1 because ADC2 is constrained while WiFi is active.
- I2C needs pull-ups and unique addresses.
- Relays, servos and cellular modules may need a separate regulated supply and common ground. Isolate mains-voltage loads.
- Save a peripheral as disabled first. Verify a single read/write operation before adding automatic rules.
Purchase and Verify
- Confirm chip, Flash and PSRAM from the module marking or board specification.
- Select the matching Hardware and Environment.
- After flashing, verify hardware in
/api/system/infoand features in/api/features/status. - Add one peripheral at a time so wiring and configuration faults remain easy to isolate.
